Welcome to my Blog and a little about me

Hi there.
Welcome to my blog. I guess you are wondering why I've started writing a blog about cycling; well, let me tell you a little about me and my story.

Firstly, I'm a teacher who loves to cycle and a cyclist who loves to teach.
I've not been riding long in the broader scheme of things, but I am making up for the lost time by enjoying my time in the saddle.

Twice in one week, I was asked how I got into cycling, so I thought it was high time to document my cycling journey, not because it's anything special; quite the opposite really. It's just something that everyone can do at any time. And the benefits are amazing, and just like that, the blog was born.

Like most people, I used to cycle everywhere when I was a kid. Sunny summer holidays saw me out on my bike from breakfast to tea time.

But once I passed my driving test, the bike gathered rust, not miles.

That's until I was in my early 40's. I struggled to keep my weight down, and consequently, my health began to suffer. I wanted to find a cheap way of exercising that got me out in the sunshine. I'm no runner ( I can't even run a bath), and though I enjoy walking, it did not give me the cardio exercise I was after.

That's when I remembered cycling. A friend gave me a bike that had been gathering dust in her garage, and a new hobby was born. I heard about a group called Breeze, and it sounded just what I needed to keep myself pedalling.

Though I have now parted from British Cycling, I am very proud of the time I spent volunteering for them. I was a qualified Breeze leader for over eight years, leading 350 free bike rides for women and have taken part in many, many more.

In my biggest year, I rode 3008 miles, practically doubling the distance I had ridden in the previous three years. In addition, I have taken on several challenges and raised significant money for charity.

If you had told me a few years ago that this is how I would spend my spare time, I would never have believed you. But here I am doing just that.

Happy cycling
Sharon

It was the second Friday in September, and I was heading out of the garden on my bike, nothing unusual there, but this Friday, my bike was ...
